The Reeves ASK Science Center reopened September 9th with 34 new and exciting interactive exhibits from the Exploratorium. The subjects for this exhibition explore some of Earth's most fascinating and often inspiring phenomenon. Among other stimulating exhibits, visitors will get to ponder and explore an Avalanche, a Satellite Orbit Simulator, and the Momentum Machine. Also included in these fun and educational exhibits will be some old favorites such as the Tornado, Turntable, and Cloud Rings.

These new exhibits are an inspiring and educational experience for all children and visitors. The Reeves ASK Science Center is located at 933 N. Van Ness on the corner of Tulare and Van Ness Avenues. Mobile Met comes to your school

In March of 2006, the Met piloted the Science Outreach program. This program extends the science projects and activities that the staff at the Reeves ASK Science Center have researched and developed for schools that aren't able to visit the site. These K-6 projects are developed in correlation with the science standards that are taught in schools. In the months after the program started, the outreach team has visited 20 schools and served over 2,000 children in both rural and urban school districts throughout the Central Valley; the program is free of charge. The program has most recently been expanded to include Visalia and Tulare schools.

Classroom visits are 45 minutes to one hour long. All materials are provided by the Fresno Metropolitan Museum with the exception of the "Bottle Biology" project where teachers need to supply an empty two-liter soda bottle for each student. Other basic requirements are that teachers provide their classrooms or other school facilities for the lessons. A chalk or dry-erase board, a water source and a willingness to explore are also required.

The Mobile Met may be booked for a minimum of two and a maximum of four classrooms per school visit. For booking please contact Nao Vang at 559-441-1444 extension 212 or e-mail: naov@fresnomet.org.

Art Outreach for 1st - 3rd Grade Classes

Are your classes unable to visit the Met? Would you like your students to participate in a hands-on art lesson in your own classroom? If your school is located within a 10-mile radius of the Museum, docents from the Met will come to your classroom and present an art lesson to students in 1st - 3rd grade classes.

Three popular projects suitable for these grades have been developed and include printmaking, sculpture, and collage. In addition, to correspond to the museum's permanent collection, lessons have been recently added in Native American basketry and jigsaw puzzles.

Each inquiry-based lesson is one hour long and features hands-on art instruction on the related topic. All materials are provided by the Met and there is no cost for the class. Lesson plans related to the Visual and Performing Arts Content Standards are also provided. Please call Ann Wanger at 559 - 441-1444 for further information and/or to schedule.
