The permanent collection of the Met is comprised of more than 3,000 works of art and artifacts drawn from several cultures spanning more than 400 years. The Met actively collects objects through gifts, bequests, and purchases consistent with the Museum's collection goals. The Museum is dedicated to researching, interpreting and exhibiting objects in its collection.
Recently the Met received a gift of thirteen botanical prints depicting various flowers, fruits, and animals. The prints are from the late 18th and early 19th century and were originally published in magazines and books. Learn More »
The Salzer collection consists of more than sixty trompe-l'oeil (French for "fool the eye") and still-life paintings from the sixteenth to the twentieth century.
